Portuguese Studies

Bem-vindos! The Portuguese Studies program of Montclair State University offers a unique combination of literary, linguistic and cultural experiences for our undergraduate students. In the cradle of one of the largest Luso-Brazilian communities in the country, our program opens the door for our students to interact linguistically and socially with people on four continents and provides students with a competitive advantage in the workplace, locally and internationally.

Spoken by approximately 230 million people, Portuguese is the fastest growing language in social media and the sixth most widely spoken language in the world. Our Portuguese Studies program offers courses that cover a full range of Luso-Brazilian language and literatures. They also approach Luso-Brazilian culture through music, film and community outreach projects.

Be a part of our vibrant, intellectually inspiring and culturally enriching Portuguese-speaking community!
