Arabic Studies
In this interdisciplinary program, you will learn about the Arabic-speaking world from an economic, historical, political, religious and literary perspective.

Our interdisciplinary archaeology program will introduce you to the science, methods and ethical foundations that form the basis for this fascinating discipline.

Art and Design Studio
Explore art making and design in multiple mediums and take classes that analyze other artists’ work.

Asian Studies
Learn to speak Japanese or Chinese while simultaneously studying Asian Philosophy. Or try a class on Contemporary Chinese Cinema and Society, to expand your knowledge of the world.

Athletic Training
Athletic trainers are highly educated and skilled in the prevention, care and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions that occur in people who participate in strenuous physical activity.

In our programs, you will learn to work with individuals who have difficulty hearing, understanding speech and/or processing auditory signals, as well as individuals with balance disorders


Biochemistry majors will emerge with a strong background in chemistry and biochemistry as well as in the basic sciences and mathematics.

Business Analytics
Business analytics is the set of tools and techniques that makes it possible to translate big data into insight and information for efficient decision making.

Child Advocacy and Policy
The multidisciplinary curriculum brings together many of New Jersey’s leaders in the fields of law, public child welfare, mental health, public policy and psychology to deliver a unique education not found anywhere else.

Creative Writing
Montclair State’s creative writing program offers courses in fiction, poetry, drama, creative nonfiction, screenwriting and memoir, on a variety of levels.

Criminal Justice

Environmental Justice
This multidisciplinary minor offers students a theoretical and an applied course of study in environmental justice, an emerging interdisciplinary field.

Environmental Management
We prepare environmental professionals in all sectors (academia, industry, government, nonprofits) to take leadership roles in solving society’s most challenging environmental problems.

Exercise Science
Exercise Science prepares exercise practitioners to perform accurate fitness assessments, including recognition of pathologic indicators, as well as to plan, implement, evaluate and sustain exercise-programming initiatives.


Family Science and Human Development
Family Science and Human Development (formerly known as Family and Child Studies) is an interdisciplinary field that teaches you how to understand individuals, families, and communities from a holistic point of view with an emphasis on social justice.

Fashion Design
Through coursework that focuses on how clothing is designed, illustrated, constructed and evaluated for quality, students gain hands-on experience and an understanding of the creative aspects of fashion design.

Fashion Merchandising
The program in Fashion Merchandising focuses on the importing/exporting, advertising, branding, buying and eventual distribution of fashion products to consumers.

Fashion Studies
Explore the many facets of fashion while learning to analyze consumer needs and determine how a dynamic industry meets those needs. Graduates pursue careers in fashion manufacturing, merchandising, management and marketing of products and services.

Film Studies
The courses also provide a strong grounding in “media literacy,” guiding students to adopt an informed and active approach to the rapidly expanding range of mass-produced and artist-made moving images that dominate contemporary culture.

Our intensive, conservatory-style progression of coursework gives our filmmaking majors a powerful foundation in the concepts of story.

Our finance program will introduce you to theoretical foundations of contemporary practices and applications in corporate finance, investments and financial management.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Studies
You will research, analyze, and discuss topics – that go straight to the heart of the matter – with classes such as, “Hate Crimes” and “Sociology of Gender.”

Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies

Geographic Information Science
Geographic Information Science (GIS) uses computer-based tools that organize and display geographic information, i.e., information linked to geographic coordinates. GIS links maps to the underlying data such as population, income, property values, tax rates, crime rates and voting patterns, among many others.

Our Geography programs emphasize human interactions with the physical environment, environmental law and policy, environmental economics and environmental management.

Become fluent in German and explore the rich, complex history and culture of one of the most influential countries in Europe through this multi-faceted and engaging course of study.

Gerontology is a field of study that examines the social, cultural, psychological and physical changes associated with aging.
