If you want to challenge and inspire advanced learners, Montclair’s online Gifted and Talented Education Certificate will prepare you to design instruction that meets their unique needs.
This fully online, 9-credit program is designed for certified teachers who want to deepen their expertise in working with gifted students across grade levels. You’ll explore theories of giftedness, methods for identifying exceptional learners, and strategies for differentiation that promote both academic growth and social-emotional development.
Coursework covers curriculum design, assessment, and program development for gifted education, as well as ways to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. You’ll also learn how to address issues of equity and access to ensure all gifted students have the opportunity to excel.
With guidance from faculty who are experienced in the field, you’ll apply your learning directly to your classroom or program, making an immediate impact on student engagement and achievement. The flexible, asynchronous format allows you to complete your coursework while continuing to teach full time.

Admission Requirements
- Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree.
- Applicants with non-U.S. degrees: Please visit the international applicants page to review U.S. degree equivalency information.
- *Students seeking an F1/J1 visa are not eligible for this certificate program unless they are currently pursuing a master's degree at Montclair State University and are able to simultaneously pursue both programs while maintaining their student visa requirements.
Application Checklist
- Application Deadline: Rolling admission.
- Online Application: Submit application and $60 non-refundable fee (or waiver if applicable).
- Transcript: One from each college attended.
