History of Alumni Green

At a Glance

  • Alumni Green was established in 1996 and dedicated at Alumni Weekend of that year. It was made possible through the generous bequests of Barbara A. Wolf ’28 and Margaret R. Gerdinick ’38 ’49 MA. Check out the article in Alumni Life from 1996!
  • In 1996, Jim McGilvray ’41 was President of the Montclair State University Alumni Association (MSUAA), Hollie Stephens was Director of Alumni Relations and Dr. Gregory L. Waters was Vice President for Institutional Advancement.  Dr. Irvin D. Reid was President of Montclair State University.
  • During Alumni Weekend 1999, a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for all brick, bench and tree donations took place. Masters of ceremony included Wayne DeFeo ’80, ’82 MA, President of the Alumni Association, Syd Salt ’51, ’52 MA and James Spry ’54.
  • Nearly 400 bricks were dedicated in honor of family, friends and classmates.
  • Over 20 trees and benches were dedicated throughout the years.
  • A  9/11 Memorial plaque was installed as a living tribute to those whom our community lost on September 11, 2001.
