Research and our own observations inform us that students, and instructors, have experienced various levels of trauma through the pandemic. Simple strategies, informed by trauma experts, will be introduced and discussed to improve students’ sense of well-being and belonging. Instructors are not expected to be counselors or expert in counseling skills; rather, these strategies demonstrate our capacity for empathy and understanding as classroom leaders, reduce stigma, and encourage reflection and self-care in students.
