This STEM-Designated Degree Program equips you with the advanced technical skills and theoretical foundation needed for roles in Information Technology (IT) management, system administration, and emerging tech industries. The curriculum is designed for professionals seeking to deepen their expertise or pivot into technology leadership roles across sectors.

You’ll explore core areas such as system design, software engineering, databases, computer networks, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. With an emphasis on applied problem-solving, the program prepares you to address real-world IT challenges while integrating emerging technologies. In-person - General Concentration

Take advantage of Montclair’s several High Performance Computing (HPC) data centers and benefit from hands-on research that will set you apart from other IT professionals. This modality enables students to engage directly with faculty and peers in dynamic learning environments — ideal for those who benefit from face-to-face collaboration and immediate access to campus resources such as labs and technology support. By attending on campus, students can immerse themselves fully in the academic community.

Online - Applied IT

Take the next step in your career with the Online Master of Science in Information Technology with a concentration in Applied IT (Professional Science Master’s), designed for working professionals or those seeking maximum flexibility. Delivered asynchronously, it lets students complete the same rigorous coursework entirely online — ideal for balancing graduate study with personal or professional responsibilities. The online “Applied IT” track is structured to ensure continuity, accessibility, and the same academic rigor as the on-campus version while providing full preparation for advanced careers in information technology.

Admission Requirements

  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants with non-U.S. degrees: Please visit the international applicants page to review U.S. degree equivalency information.
  • *F1/J1 visa seeking students are not eligible for the online Applied IT program.

Application Checklist

  • Application Deadline: Rolling admission.
  • Online Application: Submit application and $60 non-refundable fee (or waiver if applicable).
  • Transcript: One from each college attended.
  • Essays/Personal Statement: Please write an integrated essay providing a response to each of the following questions.
    • What are your goals for graduate study and your future career?
    • In what ways do your academic background and your professional experiences provide evidence of your potential for success in the program you selected and in your eventual career?
    • Please give specific examples of relevant coursework and/or experience.
    • Is there any further information we should consider in assessing your candidacy?
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two.
  • Resume: Required.
