Hispanic Heritage Month 2022
This year’s theme for Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month is “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.”
As Associate Provost for Hispanic Initiatives Katia Paz Goldfarb puts it: “This year’s theme, reminds us that en la unión está la fuerza, together we are stronger and the need for inclusivity within and outside our communities. This month gives us an opportunity to share, recognize and celebrate de donde venimos y a dónde vamos [where we come from and where we are going] as an intrinsic part of the society.”
Hispanic Heritage Month 2021
This year’s theme, “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope,” explained by the event’s organizer and LASO Advisor, Carmen Reyes-Cuevas, assistant director for the Educational Opportunity Fund Program, “invites us to celebrate Hispanic heritage and to reflect on how great our tomorrow can be if we hold on to resilience and hope.”
For the first time ever, a block party was held to celebrate Hispanic/Latinx heritage and to commemorate 5 years as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), on October 13, 2021. The campus community enjoyed live music from Direct Latin Influence and a student Latin Jazz Band led by Nico Martin, delicious empanadas from the Empanada Lady food truck, dominoes, Zumba and spoken word.
