The eighth annual reception for Montclair State University authors was held on April 12, 2016, in Sprague Library’s Periodicals Reading Room. Faculty and staff gathered to recognize those who had recently authored books, published musical works or created media, and to browse through the displayed works.

Co-sponsored by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Willard Gingerich and Dean of Library Services Judith Lin Hunt, this year’s event set a record with more than 60 new works on display for attendees to view. More than 336 works have been published by University personnel since the first author’s reception, which was held in 2009.

“Montclair State is not slowing down – if anything, it’s speeding up and becoming even more productive than we already have been,” said Gingerich about the record number of submissions. “Congratulations to everyone.”

A large number of authors and members of the University community were on hand to mingle and talk about the works. The reception provided the opportunity for everyone to see what their colleagues have produced, to discuss the works and to exchange ideas for future collaborations.

“What’s remarkable about this display is the diversity,” noted Gingerich. “From musical scores to novels to university press monographs to translations of Saul Bellow into Chinese – any number of academic and intellectual activities. So the University is clearly a highly fruitful, productive and active intellectual space – which is exactly what it should be.”

As in past years, a booklet with a cover image and synopsis of each of the new works was available to take away. Copies of the booklet are available at the Library’s circulation and reference desks and all members of the University community are encouraged to pick up a copy.

The booklet – as well as the booklets from previous years – is also available online at the websites of the Provost and the Library, and can be viewed below.
