The Montclair State University campus buzzed with activity as thousands of students, alumni, families and friends gathered on Saturday, October 6 to celebrate Homecoming 2018.

With alumni gatherings, campus tours, athletic events, food, games and activities for all ages taking place throughout the day, there was plenty to do and see for all those who joined in the fun.

This year’s Homecoming featured a Boardwalk Bash at locations around the campus where everyone could enjoy activities that included face painting, balloon art, a DJ, food, sweets, carnival rides, photo booths and inflatables. There was plenty for the little ones too, who were treated to carnival rides, games, a petting zoo, and were able to check out a fire truck and an EMT truck.

Over at the Amphitheater, the Mainstage events took place with performances, demonstrations and interactive presentations, as well at music provided by a DJ and the ever-popular Student Showcase, where members of student organizations showed off their talents with skits and dance routines.

Alumni gatherings were held at the Feliciano School of Business for MBA alumni and students, and at the School of Communication and Media for SCM alumni and families. The College of Education and Human Services hosted “Fun with Chocolate,” where visitors could attend a student demonstration and tasting of handcrafted chocolate bark infused with spiced orange and hazelnuts.

At the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics presented “Science in Action: Jurassic!” featuring a new museum exhibit of Coelophysis, a dinosaur that roamed New Jersey more than 200 million years ago – and even left a footprint right where Montclair State was later built. Many other hands-on activities allowed visitors to explore the history of Planet Earth and the Universe with the professors and scientists of the College.

Athletic events included the annual Alumni Swimming and Diving Meet at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool, a field hockey game vs. Stockton University, which the Red Hawks won 3-2, and a men’s soccer game vs. Ramapo College, which resulted in a 2-0 victory for Montclair State.

Red Hawks fans gathered prior to the football game for a tailgate, with food trucks, craft beer, wine, music, games, and plenty of school spirit as they got ready for kick off.

Played this year under the lights, the Homecoming football game drew a crowd of enthusiastic supporters to Sprague Field where they cheered on the Red Hawks as they faced off against The College of New Jersey. Montclair State remained undefeated on the season blanking the Lions 28-0. Half-time festivities included a performance by the Drums of Thunder and recognition of the Hall of Fame alumni.

Homecoming 2018 was a terrific way to reunite with friends, enjoy great entertainment and fun, get reacquainted with the campus and show Red Hawk pride!
