This month, Montclair State’s Office of Veteran and Military Resources will partner with Edge4Vets – a nonprofit initiative created by The Human Resiliency Institute at Fordham University, to offer its online Plan4Success job preparedness workshop for the University’s military-affiliated students and alumni.

The two-part webinar series, the second installment of which takes place on April 28, is designed to educate vets on how to translate their strengths from the military into tools for civilian success. Participants will be granted access to Edge4Vets’ online course in addition to the webinars, and will conclude the program by working with human resource representatives from NJ Transit to explore potential job opportunities.

By partnering with Edge4Vets, Montclair State is continuing its commitment to being a military-friendly institution.

From application to graduation, the University’s Office of Veteran and Military Resources takes a proactive approach to education and helps students connect with necessary resources as well as other military-affiliated students. Previously designated a “military friendly” university by veterans-owned Victory Media, the University is committed to ensuring military-affiliated students smoothly move from military to academic life, and to life after graduation.

“Being able to partner with Edge4Vets and offer Montclair State’s military-affiliated student population a chance to participate in their Plan4Success workshops is so important because it is going to give our students another resource and tool to prepare for life after graduation,” says Jonathan Gubitosi, Montclair State’s veteran’s certification, advising and engagement coordinator.

Created in 2011, the Edge4Vets program is one of the signature initiatives of the Resiliency Institute, which conducts research and offers training to help aviation workers cope with pressures from congestion, delays and high security.

Housed within Fordham’s Graduate School of Education, the Institute expands upon work initiated by Reclaiming the Sky, a nonprofit organization that supported workers’ resilience after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

“Edge4Vets gives veterans what business leaders say they need most, and that is, support to translate their military skills into tools for civilian success,” says Edge4Vets founder Tom Murphy. “Montclair State University vets have great potential for civilian success – Edge4Vets gives them a helping hand.”

The April 28 webinar will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Register by visiting the event’s official registration page.
