President Cole was interviewed by SCM Director Keith Strudler and students (clockwise from bottom left): Alex Colon, Caroline Gutierrez, Imani Thompson, Bernice Ndegwa, Brogan Quigley and Paulette Gando-Duenas.

In an interview in the building recently named after her, outgoing President Susan A. Cole sat down with School of Communication and Media Director Keith Strudler in the atrium to reflect on her 23 years of leadership at Montclair State. In the hour-long interview, Cole discusses the transformation of the University during her tenure, her philosophy of leadership, some of her most rewarding accomplishments, and her thoughts on prioritizing her time during retirement. In addition to Strudler’s questions, Cole answered questions from students in majors and programs across the University.

The program was produced by students from the School of Communication and Media as a hands-on learning opportunity in a class led by Professor Stuart MacLelland. Students oversaw all aspects of the program, gaining valuable experience and building skills in live, remote media production.

This work continues the tradition of experiential and applied learning throughout the School’s curriculum, says Strudler, which this past year included production of performances from the Department of Theater and Dance, live game broadcasts of Montclair State Athletics by the Red Hawk Sports Network, and strategic communications work for external clients through Hawk Communications. It also builds on the continued award-winning student work from the School’s NewsLab, WMSC Radio and the Montclarion newspaper.
