Celebrating Transgender Awareness Week

Transgender participants and allies raise flag, advocate for social justice, remember those lost to violence

This week, the campus community is observing Transgender Awareness Week, giving transgender people and allies an opportunity to educate, share personal stories and experiences, and advance advocacy on social justice issues – including the fight against the prejudice, discrimination and violence that affect the transgender community. The week’s theme, “Trans Joy in spite of…”

The Office of Social Justice and Diversity kicked off the week on Monday, November 14, 2022, with a flag-raising ceremony that included student speakers, a proclamation and a vigil in observance of Trans Day of Remembrance, the annual observance honoring the memory of those transgender people whose lives are lost in acts of anti-transgender violence each year.
