Cultivating Relational Virtues in Parents and Children

The goal of this project is to bridge the gap between research on character virtue development – particularly “relational” virtues such as generosity, gratitude, and forgiveness – and the daily lives of parents. Funding will be offered to selected community-based organizations that have strong connections to networks of parents of school-aged children to support them in devising or expanding innovative ways to educate parents on the research-based keys to developing character virtues in themselves and their children. In collaboration with the Greater Good Science Center at UC, Berkeley, the RYTE Institute will provide evaluation support for participating programs as they finalize program designs, identify research foundations, and develop and implement evaluation plans. This will include training and consultation on program modeling, mapping of research evidence, and evaluation planning culminating in completed evaluation plans.
