Alumni Spotlight: Shannon Thornton

Alumna Shannon Thornton

2009 Montclair graduate, Shannon Thornton currently works as a Senior Account Executive at Peppercomm, a digital communications agency based in New York.  Shannon is a Senior Account Executive at the firm where she supports clients in business to business and consumer-facing media relations and communications campaigns. This includes developing and implementing strategic media relations programs, expanding clients’ expertise through thought leadership opportunities, creating and editing content such as bylined articles, press releases, and marketing materials.

Shannon also has experience handling crisis communications, securing speaking opportunities for executives at high-profile conferences and events, and inserting clients into trending news stories through opportunistic outreach. She has worked with clients in finance, higher education, technology, philanthropic programs, corporate social responsibility, travel, and real estate.

Prior to working at Peppercomm, Shannon worked at Stanton where she was an Account Executive working with clients in the financial sector, business to business, and technology. Among the clients Shannon has worked closely with are TD Ameritrade, Warren Financial Service, and Carl Marks Advisors, an investment banking and consulting firm.

Shannon received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations.

In honor of Women’s History Month, Shannon, along with colleague Taylor Shawver, penned this article about three women public relations pioneers — Barbara Hunter, Muriel Fox and Saralie Slonsky – who were honored at the second annual PR Women Who Changed History event at the Museum of Public Relations on March 1.
