Welcome from the Director

Welcome to the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University. Here at Montclair, students work with dedicated faculty who bring an impressive range of professional and academic experience to the classroom. Students prepare for meaningful careers in our innovative academic programs, and they’ll be encouraged to sample from across the curricular spectrum, connecting the dots in our increasingly converged media environment. Students will build professional portfolios that prepare them not simply for their first job, but for their lives and careers. They’ll be challenged to study the theories and research that help us to understand not simply what, but also why. And of course, students will do this in the most technologically advanced communication and media learning environment found on any university campus.

Both in and outside of the classroom, students at Montclair State’s School of Communication and Media will create films and television shows in our high-definition and 4K studios. They’ll cover news in our multi-platform NewsHub and join our campus newspaper The Montclarion. They’ll build and implement PR campaigns for real world clients. They’ll broadcast on our award winning radio station WMSC, cover live sporting events – including for the Red Bulls II who play right on campus, and work on cutting edge research with top scholars. And students will enjoy the range of speakers, screenings, and events that come with being a part of a national leader located just footsteps from New York City, the world’s capital of media and communication.

Of course, students and Montclair State will have ample opportunity to perfect their craft in our new 105,000 square foot, state-of-the-art building, which doesn’t simply meet – but exceeds industry standards. All of which prepares students to participate in our remarkable internship program, where students intern everywhere from national networks to global PR agencies throughout the New York City and New Jersey metropolitan area.

I invite you to come visit our campus. Perhaps you can schedule a visit during one of our many special speaker events, where leading media and communication professionals come to address our School and campus community. Or maybe you can come for an exclusive film viewing in one of our two new 4K screening rooms, getting first hand insight from writers and producers. Whenever you visit, you’ll experience the potential of our School, where students, scholars, and professionals not only learn – they do.

I’m looking forward to seeing you on campus.

Sincerely,

Keith Strudler
