Program (Academic Year and Summer Program)

Academic Year

The Upward Bound Project at Montclair State University serves 52 high school students annually.

During the academic year, participants attend the program on Saturdays. The Saturday academic component runs from September through May. Saturday sessions run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During these sessions students receive the following services:

  • academic reinforcement in:
    • mathematics (e.g. pre-calculus, calculus, geometry, statistics and algebra I & II)
    • the sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics)
    • English / Language Arts
  • one-on-one tutoring
  • financial literacy
  • peer leadership training
  • team building activities
  • personal development
  • cultural field trips
  • college campus visits
  • counseling
  • mentoring

Summer Program

During the summer program, students are exposed to six (6) weeks of classes from June to August, Monday through Friday, at Montclair State University. Participants will become familiar with some of the aspects of life on a college campus. They will attend classes in language arts, mathematics, sciences, computer literacy, SAT test preparatory as well as everything offered during the academic year, listed above.
