Have an undergraduate degree and exploring your next move – but not quite ready to take on a Master’s or PhD? The English Graduate Certificate can be that “in between” step, providing an introduction to the field of graduate studies in English to students who have previously received an undergraduate degree but have not yet received an MA or PhD in English. It is ideal for middle and secondary school teachers seeking professional development through coursework in literary and cultural studies.

Students in the program complete 9 credits of English graduate coursework, spanning a variety of possible subjects, including American Literature and the Teaching of Writing. The courses in this certificate program are led by a distinguished faculty of scholar-teachers who are internationally recognized as leaders in their fields.

In moving through this Graduate Certificate, you will grow as a reader, writer, thinker, and researcher. You also will get a sustained, first-hand exposure to what graduate study in English entails today, becoming more informed, more prepared, more competitive, and ultimately more successful as you pursue future educational and professional goals.
