The MS in Mathematics is a STEM designated program that gives you a rigorous foundation in advanced mathematical theory and methods through coursework, seminars and independent study. Core requirements include Real Variables, Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, and Probability, with electives in areas such as general relativity, topology, and graph theory. You’ll strengthen proof writing, problem solving, and analytical reasoning as you prepare for doctoral study, industry roles that value deep quantitative skills, or advancement as a professional seeking a stronger resumé.

You’ll work closely with faculty while selecting graduate electives that align with your interests. The program’s flexible curriculum lets you build depth across theoretical mathematics, while maintaining room for specialized topics. Your graduate experience is designed to support your goals— whether that’s research, further graduate study, or mathematically intensive work in technology or other STEM fields.

General Concentration

The core MS Mathematics program is a theoretical program that provides a mathematical foundation for students who plan to continue in further graduate studies, those interested in industry, as well as in-service teachers seeking a deeper knowledge of their field. Core courses include Real Variables, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Probability, with elective courses in theoretical mathematics including number theory, topology, and graph theory. You may choose one of the following options for a culminating experience: capstone project, or MS thesis.

Mathematics Education

The concentration in mathematics education levels up your teaching skills, offering a special combination of courses in mathematics, mathematics education and the use of technology in mathematics education. This concentration does not lead to certification.

  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.

    • Please give specific examples of relevant coursework and/or experience.
    • Is there any further information we should consider in assessing your candidacy?
