Applying without an NP Certification? Select the Focus that Matches Your Career Goals
Concentrations are designed for students entering the program without an existing Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification. If you are not yet certified as an NP, you’ll choose between two focus areas – Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) – to align your doctoral study with your career goals. If you already hold NP certification, you will follow a streamlined pathway through the program without selecting a concentration, with reduced credit and clinical hour requirements.
The Family Nurse Practitioner track prepares you to deliver comprehensive primary care for individuals and families across the lifespan. You’ll gain the knowledge to diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic conditions while emphasizing wellness and primary prevention in nursing. Coursework and clinical experiences strengthen your expertise in advanced clinical decision making, preparing you for leadership in adult primary care nursing as well as family-focused practice.
