This post-baccalaureate program prepares you to become a certified science teacher in New Jersey for grades 5 through 8. Designed for those with a background in science, the program provides a pedagogical foundation and professional field experiences essential to teaching science effectively at the middle school level.

Once you complete the program, you will be recommended to the NJ Department of Education for a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing. This certificate allows candidates to seek employment in public schools throughout the state. You’ll also need to complete a provisional teaching year to be eligible for a standard certificate.

Montclair’s certification curriculum is aligned with New Jersey state requirements and includes coursework in instructional strategies, classroom management, and assessment. See the curriculum.
