Christopher Matthews

Christopher N. Matthews is professor of anthropology at Montclair State University. His specialty is American historical archaeology with a focus on inequality, race, and community-based research. He co-director of the ‘A Long Time Coming’ project in Setauket, New York and the ‘Reverse Archaeology of Interstate-280 Project’ in Orange, New Jersey. He has a Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University and is the author of An Archaeology of History and Tradition and The Archaeology of American Capitalism and co-editor of Ethnographic Archaeologies and The Archaeology of Race in the Northeast.
