The Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology at Montclair State University prepares students for rewarding careers as licensed clinicians in hospitals, schools, rehab centers and private practice. This program can be completed in as few as 6 semesters (including summers) if you have a background in communication disorders, or in 8 semesters without a background. This accredited, hands-on program combines expert faculty, real-world clinical training and cutting-edge research to prepare you for success.

Graduates are eligible for New Jersey licensure and ASHA certification upon completing the Clinical Fellowship year, meeting current certification standards. Admission Requirements

  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants with non-U.S. degrees: Please visit the international applicants page to review U.S. degree equivalency information.
  • Applicants with a GPA below 3.2 (undergraduate degree) or 3.0 (graduate degree) will not be considered for admission.

Application Checklist

  • Application Deadline: January 15 for Summer; February 15 for Fall.
  • Online Application: Applications are submitted via the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS). To apply, select “Montclair State University” in the “Add Program” section of the CSDCAS application. For assistance with the CSDCAS application, visit their help center.
  • Transcript: One from each college attended.
  • Essays/Personal Statement: Please write one integrated essay providing a response to each of the following questions:
    • What are your goals for graduate study and your future career?
    • In what ways do your academic background and your professional experiences provide evidence of your potential for success in the program you selected and in your eventual career? Please give specific examples of relevant coursework and/or experience.
    • Is there any further information we should consider in assessing your candidacy?
  • Letters of Recommendation: Three.
