Program Description

This program of study fulfills the New Jersey Department of Education academic requirements for students who wish to obtain the Certificate of Eligibility for NJ Principal.  Applicants must possess a Master’s Degree or higher to pursue the Post-Master’s Principal Certification option.

Courses in this 30 – 33 credit sequence are offered in both fully online and hybrid formats (hybrid format denotes part-time online and part-time face-to-face instruction).  To earn the NJ Principal Endorsement, candidates need to complete five years of eligible teaching or educational services experience by the end of their program. As part of the program, students will also complete the state-mandated 300-hour administrative internship. In order to receive the Principal’s Certificate, students also need to obtain a passing score on the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA).

This endorsement authorizes the holder to be employed in positions that include principal, assistant principal, vice principal, director, and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Note: The requirements for the NJ Supervisor Certificate are also incorporated into this program.

If you don’t have an existing Master’s Degree, please review our options for our Master of Arts in Educational Leadership with Supervisor and Principal Certifications
