Forward Thinking

The Spring 2018 edition of Montclair State’s award-winning Forward Thinking research newsletter highlights some of the important research being conducted by the University faculty and students, including contributions to the advancement of different areas of cancer research and in the development of new treatments for malaria.

In this issue you’ll also read about a $5.7 million Boy Scouts of America Character Initiative grant award funded by the Stephen D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation that will be put to use to study how training and experience of scoutmasters and other volunteers builds character in scouts.

Other highlights of this issue include how the University connects K-12 classrooms to the Rain Forest; how one rare disease affects patients and families; how neighborhoods dubbed “Pockets of Peace” in challenged communities are able to remain immune to violence and despair; how effective remediation efforts in the contaminated Musconetcong River have been in improving water quality; and how schools can support recently arrived immigrants who speak little English.
