PSEG Helps Montclair Students Dress for Success with Clothing Donation to Rocky’s Closet

Students at Rocky’s Closet have access to build a professional wardrobe for free as they prepare for job interviews, internships and career opportunities

Students at Montclair State University will be able to dress for success and feel confident as they enter the workforce, thanks to continued efforts by the Rocky’s Closet initiative and a recent generous donation of professional clothing by employees at PSEG.

Longtime University partner PSEG and its employees hosted a Professional Clothing Drive and collected more than 150 items of clothing suited for a professional wardrobe for both men and women. Items included suits, dresses, shirts, cardigans and dress pants. The donation was delivered to Rocky’s Closet in August – just in time for the fall semester when many students are beginning internships, going on job interviews and planning for formal affairs such as graduation and awards ceremonies.

Rocky’s Closet, established in 2017 and run by Advocacy and Outreach in the Office of Student Belonging, is a program that provides current students with access to business attire as they prepare for job interviews, internships and career opportunities. Rocky’s Closet, located on the Montclair campus, accepts new or slightly used professional clothing, shoes and accessories for business settings, including gender-neutral/inclusive clothing options. All donated clothes are dry-cleaned and ready to wear.

“The donation of clothing items from PSEG is an example of the community connection needed to support Rocky’s Closet,” says Jonnine DeLoatch, Assistant Dean of Student Belonging at Montclair. “Rocky’s Closet is part of Montclair’s commitment to supporting the well being of our students and providing a resource that they might not be able to afford as college students. We appreciate PSEG’s support to our students and know that their donation will have a direct impact on our students’ professional success.”

“We’re proud to partner with Rocky’s Closet and Montclair State University to help students dress with confidence as they begin their professional journeys,” says Sheila Rostiac, Chief Human Resources Officer and Chief Diversity Officer at PSEG and trustee on the Montclair State University Board. “The generosity of our employees shows the power of community support and reflects our commitment to investing in the next generation workforce.”

PSEG’s long-standing public-private partnership with the University extends far beyond its support for the Rocky’s Closet mission. PSEG Foundation support fuels the PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies and makes possible the annual PSEG ISS Green Teams internship program based at Montclair, which has been a platform for launching students into internships, green jobs and graduate and professional study since 2016.
