Health and Safety

Every student at Montclair State has the right to feel safe and secure in their environment. To that end, we have taken precautions to try and ensure their safety and protect our campus community, including having a full-time police force on campus and having students register their cell phones so they can receive emergency text alerts.

But safety starts with personal responsibility. Students should be reminded to practice common sense behavior about locking doors, protecting their property, and being aware of their surroundings.

Montclair State is proud to have been a recipient of the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award, which is presented each year by Security On Campus, Inc., to honor schools and individuals who have taken extraordinary measures to prevent violence, substance abuse and other crimes in college and university campus communities across the United States. We also are a designated Stigma-Free campus and are one of seventeen colleges nationwide to be awarded a Suicide Prevention Grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
