We hope you and your families are doing well.  The Hispanic Student College Institute (HSCI 2021) is returning! We are excited to offer an in-person program on the campus of Montclair State University this summer. This program will follow COVID-19 guidelines to offer a safe environment for everyone.

What are the goals of the Hispanic Student College Institute (HSCI)?
The Hispanic Student College Institute (HSCI) provides a unique and highly interactive opportunity for high school rising juniors and seniors of Hispanic/Latinx descent to strengthen their knowledge on issues related to transitioning to college, future academic success, and applying to college. Our goal is to increase students’ confidence in their ability to navigate the college admissions process and ultimately enroll at the college or university of their choice.

Who is Eligible?
Rising high school juniors and seniors of Hispanic/Latinx descent. Participants must be 16 years or older before the program start date.

All participants are required to be fully vaccinated and must submit proof of vaccination (religious exemptions are not allowed for non-MSU students residing on campus, per the University Health Center at Montclair State University).  Furthermore, a negative test result for COVID-19, administered within 72 hours before the beginning of the program will be required for all participants.  Submission instructions for non-Montclair State students will be sent to accepted students.

How much does the HSCI cost?
The Hispanic Student College Institute is completely free to all participants. The program includes housing for 2 nights; breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 3 days; and non-credit workshops/co-curricular activities.

Testimonials from HSCI 2020 participants:

“I really enjoyed how welcoming the mentors and everybody else who helped and truly informed us on how to prepare for college.”

“All speakers gave us information and advice that will stick with me. I felt extremely motivated for school, which is something I have not felt since the start of quarantine. I would say to keep all the speakers!”

“My dad was thankful for the meetings in Spanish and for the PowerPoints in Spanish because he found himself being less stressed for me and understood more about the college process. I would keep the parent meetings!”

“When the speakers and mentors shared the information, they made us feel as a family. We all are Hispanic and there could be many questions we have about college. Knowing that people of our type have been through this and that they were able to make it, makes us feel more confident about our futures.”
