The Office of Summer and Winter Sessions oversees the operation of Summer Sessions, Winter Session, and special programs. Summer and Winter Sessions provide opportunities for students to utilize the summer and winter “breaks” to continue their pursuit of their undergraduate or graduate studies. To stay on track, Montclair State students, visiting students currently enrolled at other colleges and universities, students who are accepted to begin their college or university studies for the subsequent fall semester, and high achieving high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to pursue their studies during winter and summer.

Summer Sessions
Face to face, online, and hybrid undergraduate and graduate credit courses are offered from May to August in the arts, business, computer science, education, human services, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences and social sciences. Courses are intense, comprehensive, and regardless of session, they all meet the same academic rigor and hour requirements as those offered during the fall and spring semesters.

Summer Session begins in mid-May and continues through August with a three-week session, three four-week sessions, two six-week sessions, an eight-week session, and a twelve-week session, followed by a three-week post-session in August. Daytime classes generally meet Monday through Thursday while evening classes meet on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Please see the online schedule for specific information.

Winter Session
Montclair State’s Winter Session offers students the opportunity to take online or hybrid courses and earn up to four credits during the four-week Winter Session that runs between the fall and spring semesters. Courses are intense and comprehensive and they meet the same academic rigor and requirements as those offered during the fall and spring semesters.

Special Programs
In addition, the office provides other academic support services for the University including scheduling and registration for special non-credit and credit programs and workshops, as well as, courses on-and off-campus for grant-funded programs, English as a second language instruction, Educational Opportunity Fund residential experience, and international summer institutes through the Global Education Center.
