Master of Public Health – Health Systems Administration and Policy

The Health Systems Administration and Policy concentration in Montclair State University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program trains students to become leaders in the management and administration of healthcare systems. With a strong focus on prevention, health equity and social justice, this concentration equips public health professionals with the strategic, analytical and leadership skills needed to improve healthcare delivery and policy. Students explore the core public health disciplines—biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, health policy and management, and social and behavioral sciences—while gaining specialized expertise in health systems administration and policy development. Graduates are prepared for careers in hospitals, healthcare systems, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and policy or advocacy groups, where they can make a measurable impact on improving population health outcomes.

Admission Requirements

  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants with non-U.S. degrees: Please visit the international applicants page to review U.S. degree equivalency information.

Application Checklist

  • Application Deadline:
    • Spring: October 17 early deadline, decision by November 5, rolling admissions after
    • Fall: April 1 is priority deadline & get a decision by April 15, rolling admissions after
  • Online Application: Submit application and $60 non-refundable fee (or waiver if applicable).
  • Transcript: One from each college attended.
  • Essay/Statement – The MBA and MPH programs each have their own particular lens, not easily shared by taking only one or two courses in the other program.
    • Essay/Statement Prompt: The MPH curriculum is shaped around the core public health principles of health equity and social justice, as the means to improve the healthcare system and population health. The MBA curriculum is shaped around instilling core business competencies, with a real-world focus on innovative problem solving and global strategic thinking. Write a brief 500-1000 word statement about why your career goals or previous experiences lead you to pursue a dual degree that addresses both.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two
  • Standardized Test Scores: GRE. (All applicants with an earned bachelor’s or master’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above will automatically receive a GRE waiver)
