Legal Documents

Only the New Jersey Attorney General is authorized to accept service of process or subpoenas served on the University.

All other personnel should refuse receipt of any legal papers and direct the process server to the University Counsel who will keep a record of all documents received and when they are received. The University Counsel is responsible for determining the appropriate response to all legal documents.

In the event an employee directly receives a subpoena or court order requiring prompt action, he/she shall immediately contact the University Counsel.

An employee may accept legal papers naming the employee individually and not in any official capacity.

Should an employee accept service of process because he/she is an individually named defendant, the documentation and a request for representation should be forwarded immediately to the University Counsel.
