Admissions Criteria

Our innovative Honors EDGE Program admits new first-time freshmen, as well as transfer students from two- and four-year institutions, and current Montclair State University freshmen and sophomore students. In addition to the below academic criteria, all applicants should demonstrate a strong record of public service, charitable or other work, achievement in research or the creative arts, personal leadership, or other notable accomplishments.

New Freshmen

New students who have been accepted to the University must have:

  • An unweighted high school GPA of 3.6 or above (out of 4.0).
  • A record of taking challenging courses at your school.

Current Students

Current freshmen or sophomore Montclair students must have:

  • Completed no more than four semesters at Montclair State University.
  • A record of academic excellence at Montclair State University.

If you are a current Montclair State University student, you can apply for Honors EDGE here.

Transfer Students

For students transferring to Montclair from a 4-year college or university:

  • Applicants will have completed no more than four semesters at another college/university.
  • A record of academic excellence at previous college/university.

If you are transferring from another 4-year institution, you can apply for Honors EDGE here.

 

For students transferring to Montclair from a community college:

  • Completed at least four honors courses at your community college or a strong record of leadership, public service, creativity, charitable or other work, personal initiative, or other notable accomplishments.
  • A record of academic excellence at your community college.

Please note: The priority application deadline has passed. New applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed on a case-available basis until Sunday, June 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. We recommend that you apply as soon as possible for consideration.
