Admissions Criteria

Our innovative Honors EDGE Program admits new first-time freshmen, as well as transfer students from two- and four-year institutions, and current Montclair State University freshmen and sophomore students. In addition to the below academic criteria, all applicants should demonstrate a strong record of public service, charitable or other work, achievement in research or the creative arts, personal leadership, or other notable accomplishments.

Admissions criteria for Freshman Applicants

To be considered for the Montclair State University Honors EDGE Program as a new freshman, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Academic Excellence

A strong record of academic achievement in high school, typically demonstrated by a GPA of 3.5 or higher. We encourage students who have excelled academically and who exhibit intellectual curiosity and passion to apply, regardless of GPA.

Creativity and Engagement

We are looking for students who demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas:

  • Participation in creative activities such as visual arts, performing arts or writing.
  • Leadership in extracurricular activities, school clubs or community organizations.
  • Involvement in public service, volunteerism or charitable work.
  • Personal initiative in pursuing independent projects or goals (e.g., starting a club, engaging in entrepreneurial activities).

We value diverse experiences and encourage you to highlight any achievements that showcase your potential for growth and your contributions to your school or community.
