Bloomfield Men’s Soccer Team & GCHT Host Youth Soccer Clinic for Bella Chanel Mentoring

The Bloomfield Men’s Soccer Team, in collaboration with the Global Center on Human Trafficking (GCHT), hosted an engaging youth soccer clinic on April 25, 2026 for participants in the Bella Chanel Mentoring Program. The clinic provided young participants with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of soccer while fostering teamwork, confidence, and meaningful connections with mentors.

Led under the direction of Coach Giovanni Soto, the Men’s Soccer Team guided youth through a series of interactive drills and skill-building activities designed to promote both athletic development and personal growth. Through hands-on coaching and encouragement, student-athletes served not only as instructors, but as role models—demonstrating leadership, communication, and the value of showing up for others. In addition to on-field instruction, players shared their personal journeys in the sport, offering insight into their experiences, challenges, and successes. These conversations created space for authentic connection, allowing youth to see themselves reflected in their mentors and to better understand the pathways to growth and opportunity.

“Mentorship plays a critical role in prevention work,” said Ashlee Martellacci, Student Affairs and Community Engagement Coordinator at the Global Center on Human Trafficking. “Human trafficking prevention is not only about identifying risk—it is about strengthening the relationships and supports that help young people stay safe, confident, and connected. When youth have access to positive role models and supportive environments, those protective factors reduce vulnerability and help them thrive. Creating opportunities for young people to hear directly from mentors about their journeys makes those connections even more impactful and real.”

The event was made possible through the partnership and support of Passaic Public Schools, who welcomed the program into their district and helped create an accessible space for youth engagement.
