Advocacy and Outreach Programs (A&O) supports Montclair State University in building and enhancing an inclusive campus climate through intersectional and community-focused education, engagement and resource-sharing specific to queer, cultural, interfaith, and gender-based communities.
Programs and Resource Centers are open to ALL members of the University!
What We Do
- Large-scale events celebrating culturally relevant holidays and observances including flag raisings
- Small-scale identity-specific programs and peer-led discussion groups
- Workshops and trainings geared toward greater understanding and exploration of identities and systems
- Provide access to basic needs via the utilization of two resource centers: Red Hawk Pantry and Rocky’s Clothing Closet
- Assist students with identity exploration, cultural immersion and leadership development
- Build companionships amongst peers
- Provide experiential learning on and off campus
Culturally Relevant Holidays and Observances
- Hispanic Heritage Month in September, hosted by the Latinx Caucus and the Office for Hispanic Initiatives
- LGBTQ+ History Month in October
- Disability History and Awareness Month in October, hosted in partnership with the Disability Caucus
- Transgender Awareness Week in November
- Black History Month flag raising in February, hosted by the African American Caucus and the African American Studies Program
- Women’s History Month in March
- Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed at Montclair in April, but nationally in May, hosted by the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus
Our amazing campus partners in the Department of Religion have also provided the Montclair community with a Multifaith Religious Observances Calendar in accordance with the Religious Holidays Policy.
