In the Theatremaker Pre-College Program at Montclair State University, you’ll experience what it means to be not just a performer, but a creator of new theatre. This one-week intensive invites students who are curious about writing, directing, and performing to step into the role of theatremaker—shaping original work from the ground up.
You’ll learn to:
- Transform your ideas into short scenes and monologues.
- Develop characters, stories, and worlds that reflect your unique voice.
- Direct your peers in rehearsal, guiding them to bring your vision to life.
- Collaborate with an ensemble to build a brand-new performance in just one week.
- Make bold creative choices and take artistic risks in a supportive environment.
By the end of the program, you and your ensemble will share an original performance—a piece you’ve imagined, written, staged, and performed—showcasing your growth as an artist and collaborator.
Program Highlights
- Learn the essentials of writing for the stage.
- Step into the director’s chair and lead actors in rehearsal.
