Discover the world of crime and justice through a variety of exciting workshops in the Law and Order: Understanding America’s Criminal Justice System Pre-college Program. In your week on campus, you will learn how the criminal mind works and sharpen your investigative skills in workshops on crime scene analysis and policing. You will be introduced to some of the biggest challenges in our society and how communities can make justice happen. We will also give you a chance to see how it feels to be a lawyer or judge during a mock trial and discuss critical topics on punishment such as the death penalty and wrongful convictions.
You’ll learn from amazing Montclair faculty who bring years of experience in research, teaching, field experience and social activism. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Montclair this summer, where you’ll take the next step towards your future while enjoying all of the fun of residential life on our scenic campus only 12 miles from New York City.
In this program, you will:
- Learn how the criminal mind works
- Learn how crime scene investigation solves crimes
- Learn how our society enforces the law
- Understand how communities can strengthen justice
- Learn about the effect race has on the criminal justice system
- Slip into the role of lawyer or judge during a mock trial
- Learn about the death penalty and wrongful convictions
- During the program, you’ll also be taking a trip to visit criminal justice agencies and meet with criminal justice professionals
