Laughter is not what you would expect to hear at a movie about an asteroid on a 21-day course to destroy Earth, but when Montclair State alumna Lorene Scafaria ’99 premiered her directorial debut Seeking a Friend for the End of the World on campus on June 21, there was plenty of laughter as well as some crying (the world ends, after all) and reminiscing.

The film, staring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, was co-presented by Montclair State University and the Montclair Film Festival to an audience of family, friends, students, alumni, and the local community.  Dressed in a flowing floral dress and hot pink suede pumps, Scafaria answered questions following the film and talked about her writing process, the inspiration behind the film, and realizing her vision as a screenwriter through the role of director.
