Kings Point, NY (4/12/08) – Freshman Monique Riddick (Edison, NJ / Edison) captured the shot put and placed second and third in the discus and hammer throw respectively as the Montclair State outdoor track and field team put together 11 Top 5 finishes at the Bill Omeltchekno Meet held at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday.
Riddick, who automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships last week, made it 3-for-3 in shot events this outdoor season as she bested the field of 20 competitors as she recorded a winning throw of 13.73 meters. She later threw 34.44 in the discus and capped her day with a 39.44 meter distance in the hammer throw.
Asimou won his second outdoor shot put event this year as she topped 28 competitors with a throw of 15.70. Marc Seemon ( North Plainfield, NJ / Union Catholic) placed second in the event as he registered a mark of 14.12 meters.
Brown won the 110 hurdles for the second consecutive week as he clocked in a 14.71, an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.
Elsewhere, James Pszwaro (Carney’s Point, NJ / Penns Grove) placed second in the javelin (50.30 meters) while Andrew Nnadi ( West Orange, NJ / West Orange) was fifth in the long jump (6.18 meters). Mario Morrison-Bird ( West Orange, NJ / West Orange) finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 40.09 meters.
On the women’s side, sophomore Amanda Hart ( Livingston, NJ / Livingston) placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.75 while freshman Farida Jawando (Colts Neck, NJ / Monmouth Regional) place fourth in the 800 meters (2:21.57).
The Red Hawks are in action next weekend, April 19-20 as they compete in the CTC Outdoor Championships which will be held in Allentown, PA.
