Track Trio Lauded by NJAC

Montclair, NJ (5/6/08) – Freshman athletes Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra) and Monique Riddick (Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) and junior Eugene Asimou (Livingston, NJ / Livingston) were each honored for their outstanding efforts at the NJAC Championships by earning weekly honors from the league on Tuesday.

Brown earns NJAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after being named the Thomas M. Gerrity Most Outstanding Male Athlete at the 2008 NJAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Richard Stockton. He placed first in a field of 15 competitors in the 100 meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 14.56. He also placed first in a field of 24 competitors in the 400 meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 54.02. Brown’s performances helped propel the Red Hawks to a fifth place finish in the nine-team conference championship.

Asimou earns NJAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for the third time this season after being selected as the Outstanding Male Field Athlete at the 2008 NJAC Outdoor Championships. He placed first in a field of 23 competitors in the shot put with a NCAA provisional throw of 16.04 meters. He also placed first in a field of 18 competitors in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying mark of 46.50 meters. Asimou also posted a third place finish in a field of 21 in the discus with an ECAC qualifying throw of 42.90 meters.

Riddick earns NJAC Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after being named the Thomas M. Gerrity Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the 2008 NJAC Outdoor Championships. She placed first in a field of 18 competitors in the shot put with a meet-record and a NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 14.28 meters. She also placed first in a field of 15 competitors in the discus with an ECAC qualifying throw of 37.74 meters. Riddick’s performances helped propel the Red Hawks to a fifth place finish in the nine-team conference championship.
