Murphy Selected NJAC Field Hockey Defensive POTW

Montclair, NJ (9/15/08) – Sophomore defender Jessica Murphy (West Long Branch, NJ / Shore Regional) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second straight week that MSU has received one of the league's weekly honors.

Murphy surpassed her goal total from a year ago as she scored twice in helping 16 th-ranked Montclair to a pair of wins. Following a 1-0 OT win versus Scranton, Murphy tallied both goals as Montclair edged Muhlenberg on the road 2-1. Murphy scored 10 minutes in to stake the Red Hawks to a one-goal lead. She then collected the game-winner with 12:16 left as she banged in a shot from the left side off a penalty corner.

Murphy is currently third on the team in points with six.
