– The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept
a dual meet against Division I New Jersey Insititute of Technology. The
men's squad (3-5) posted a 105-67 win against the Highlanders while the women (3-6) topped NJIT, 86-40.
Sophomore Derek Henrichsen (West Allenhurst, NJ / Ocean Township)
led the way for the Red Hawk as he won the 200 and 500 freestyle events
with times of 1:55.85 and 5:17.17, respectively. He then teammed with Matt Hyde (Clifton, NJ / Clifton), Chris Lee (Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills) and Brian Iacono (Cape May Courthouse, NJ / Middle Township) to posted a time of 1:35.98 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Hyde,
Lee and Iacono also picked up individual wins. Hyde won the 100
freestyle (51.79) with Lee taking the 200 individual medley (2:09.87.
Iacono collected his first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle
(11:12.42). John Adams ( Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII)
had a pair of wins in the 50 freestyle (22.90) and the 100 backstroke
(56.81) while also swimming on the winning 200 medley relay (1:43.41). Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) and Jon Kurtz (Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township) rounded out the MSU winners in the 100 butterfly (59.15) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.35), respectively.
For the MSU women, senior Raquel Erwin ( Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) was victorious in the 50 freestyle (25.90) for the second straight meet while Kaitlin Muchler ( Vineland, NJ / Vineland) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.46. Jessica Patalano (Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) took top honors in the 1000 freestyle (12:14.57) with sophomore Galina Loutchouk (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) taking first in the 100 butterfly.
Erwin
would got on to anchor both winning relay squads as the 200 medley
quartet clocked in at 1:58.40 while the 200 freestyle team registered a
time of 1:47.30.
The Red
Hawks return to action on Saturday, January 24 as they travel to
Glassboro, NJ to take on Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic
Conference dual meet at 1:00 pm.
