Montclair, NJ (4/20/09) - Senior Marykate DiBenedetto (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnasminson) and freshman Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt)
each picked up a pair of honors as both were honored by the New Jersey
Athletic and Skyline Conferences on Monday. DiBendetto was named the
NJAC's Offensive and Skyline Player of the Week while Delfini grabbed
Rookie of the Week honors from both leagues.
DiBenedetto earns NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the
second consecutive week and Skyline honors for the second time this
season after tallying seven goals and two assists for nine total points
in a pair of victories during the week for the Red Hawks. She opened
the week by notching five goals, five ground balls, and two draw
controls in MSU’s 21-9 road win at Mt. St. Vincent. Three days later,
she tallied two goals, two assists, three ground balls, and three draw
controls in the Red Hawks’ first NJAC win in program history, a 21-6
road victory at Kean.
DiBenedetto, who became just the fifth player in MSU school history to
eclipse the career 200-point plateau, currently leads the NJAC and
Skyline in assists with an average of 2.15 per game. In the Skyline,
DiBenedetto ranks fifth in points per game and eighth in goals per
contest.
Delfini earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second time and
Skyline accolades for the third time this season after notching eight
points in a pair of victories during the week for the Red Hawks. She
first collected one goal, one assist, four ground balls, and four draw
controls in a 21-9 road win at Mt. St. Vincent. She wrapped
up the week by tallying three goals, three assists, three ground balls,
and two draw controls in MSU’s first NJAC win in program history, a
21-6 victory at Kean.
Delfini, who also contributed defensively with a combined eight caused
turnovers in the two victories, has scored 21 goals in 13 games played
for the Red Hawks on the season.
