
On April 26, American health officials declared a public health emergency over increasing cases of swine flu in the United States. As of 11:00 a.m. on April 29, there have been 91 confirmed cases of swine flu in 10 states in the U.S.
Though there have been no confirmed cases of swine flu in New Jersey, and most specifically not within the Montclair State University community, this announcement is to assure you that the University has a comprehensive emergency plan in place and is fully prepared to take any precautions needed to protect the health of our campus community.
The University Health Center is trained and supplied to screen patients with flu-like symptoms and is working closely with the Emergency Response Team to monitor the status of the swine flu outbreak. The University has taken steps to emphasize the cleaning of bacteria-prone areas such as door handles, hand rails, elevator buttons, and faucets in its daily building cleanings, and provide information to our community on hand and cough hygiene as preventive measures.
