Baseball Lands Three on ABCA All-Region Team; Two on Gold Glove Squad

Montclair, NJ (5/25/10) - Montclair State placed three players on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Team released on Tuesday. Senior outfielder Scott Evangelist (Northfield, NJ / Holy Spirit) and sophomore lefthander Sean Hille (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph's (Metuchen)) were named to the Second Team while sophomore catcher Kevin Bond (Cedar Grove, NJ / Cedar Grove) was selected Third Team.

In addition, junior outfielder Mike Boggi (Towaco, NJ / Montville) and junior shortstop Jay Bionde (Pompton Plains, NJ / Pequannock) were tabbed for the Rawlings Gold Glove Regional Team.

Evangelist led the Red Hawks with .390 batting average as he collected 61 hits, 15 doubles, three triples and four home runs in his final season in an MSU uniform. He drove in 39 runs, scored 36 times and drew 24 walks while registering a slugging percentage of .597 and on-base average of .490. Evangelist stole three bases and committed just one error in 95 fielding chances in the outfield.

Hille went 8-2 in his second season with the Red Hawks and 3.87 ERA in 12 appearances. The southpaw struck out 68 and walked 19 in 83.2 innings and recorded three complete games. Seven times in his 11 starts in 2010, Hill pitched seven or more innings.

Bond batted .372 with a team-best six homers and 43 RBI. He recorded 61 hits, 11 doubles and a pair of triples while also scoring 31 runs. In addition he was superb behind the plate committing just two errors in 245 chances and also gunned down 17 runners attempting to steal.

Boggi successfully handled 94 of 95 chances in centerfield, including five outfield assists. In addition he batted .359 and tied Bond for second on the team with 61 hits. The junior led the team with 17 doubles and also added a triple, two homers and 38 RBI.

Bionde posteda fielding percentage of .960 as he handled 226 chances. He recorded 138 assists, the eight-best single-season total in MSU history and he was part of 24 double plays. Bionde batted .295 with 24 RBI, 10 doubles and 30 runs scored from his leadoff position of the batting order.
