Field Hockey Beats Muhlenberg for Third Straight Win

Allentown, PA (9/11/10) – Senior forward Deana Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) scored once and assisted on another goal as Montclair State posted its third straight victory with a 3-1 win at Muhlenberg College on Saturday afternoon.

Diana Colombo (Westampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley)
 and Sierra Rauchbach (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick)each added a goal as the Red Hawks moved to 3-1 on the season following a loss to No. 19 Eastern in the season opener on September 1.

Tiffany Kreider had the lone goal for Muhlenberg, which fell to 0-3 on the year.

Scoreless through the first half, Montclair dominated the second period outshooting the Mules 19-2 while also getting a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Colombo put the Red Hawks on the board five minutes into the second half as she finished off a feed from Michelle Hagel (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) for her second of the season. Deana Hagel extended the lead to 2-0 at the 57:17 mark recording her third goal of the season. 

Muhlenberg would get one back as Kreider scored on a penalty stroke cutting the MSU lead to 2-1 with 4:22 remaining. It was the Mules first goal of the year. 

But Montclair would put the game away as it scored off a penalty corner. Deana Hagel slid the ball across to Rauchbach who flipped the shot past keeper Kristen Dornenburg for her first career goal with 1:33 to play.

Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton)
 picked up the victory in goal for the Red Hawks, who finished with a 23-4 advantage in shots for the game.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, September 15 as the Red Hawks take on Steven at the DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, NJ at 2:30 pm.
