Tatro Hat Trick Catapults Men's Soccer Past CCNY, 9-1

Montclair, NJ (10/9/10) –  Senior midfielder Chris Tatro (Somerville, NJ / Somerville) scored a natural hat trick as Montclair State scored the last nine goals as the Red Hawks got back on the winning track with a 9-1 victory over City College of New York at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon.

Jon Christensen (Medford Lakes, NJ / Shawnee) and Jay Fartura (Kearny, NJ / Kearny) each had two goals as the Red Hawks bounced back from their loss at William Paterson on Thursday to improve to 9-2-2 overall while winning for the eighth time in their last 10 outings (8-0-2). 

Muhammad Zakari (Kazaure, Nigeria (Mercyhurst Prep) scored the lone goal for CCNY, which dropped its third straight. The Beavers are now 2-9-1.

Montclair State got the first five shots of the game, but it was CCNY which put the first goal on the board. Mouzaffirou Afoda (Bafilo, Togo / Anna Maria) flipped a pass to Zakari, who banged in the shot from 10 yards out for his seventh goal of the year as CCNY led 1-0 at the 11:11 mark. 

The Red Hawks tied the math just over seven minutes later as Tatro collected the first of his three tallies. Kevin Zalewski (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) assisted on the first goal at 18:38 tying the score at 1-1. It took Tatro 33 seconds to collec his second has he knocked in a pass from Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack) putting ahead for good. A third goal at 23:13 gave Tatro the hat trick and Montclair got scores from Thomas Benack (Sparta, NJ / Lenape Valley) and Fartura as it was up 5-1 at the break. 

In the second half, Christensen recorded his two goals 1:21 apart and Fartura notched his second at 50:34 making the score 8-1. Kevin Reinhardt (Madison, NJ / Madison) accounted for the final MSU score as put in a shot from 12-yards out for his first collegiate goal.

The Red hawks outshot the Beavers, 33-4. Anthony Rogic (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) and Terrance Mack (Branchburg, NJ / Somerville) combined on the victory in goal for Montclair State.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 13 as the Red Hawks travel to Union, NJ to face Kean University in a 7:30 pm matchup at Kean Alumni Stadium.
