Vallone, Avento Selected MSU Athletes of the Week for October 25

Montclair, NJ (10/25/10) - Freshman football linebacker Dan Avento (Montvale, NJ / Pascack Hills) and sophomore swimmer Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) have been named MSU Athletes of the Week for October 25.

Avento claimed his third New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week honor this season as he helped No. 13 MSU to its 15th straight conference victory in a 31-3 road win at Western Connecticut. Avento registered his first career double-digit tackle game as he notched 13, including 11 solo while also adding three tackles for a loss of 10 yards. He also forced a fumble as the Red Hawks limited the Colonials to just 174 yards of offense in the game. For the season, Avento is currently second on the team in tackles with 50 and has 6.5 tackles for loss. He is ranked 15th in the NJAC in tackles per game.

Vallone took top honors in two events as the Red Hawks faced off against New Jersey Athletic Conference power The College of New Jersey last Saturday. Vallone captured the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 24.95 seconds and later her second win in the 100 butterfly timing in at 1:03.68 to win the event. Vallone then swam the anchor legs on both the 200 medley and freestyle relay teams that each finished second with times of 1:57.12 and 1:46.19 respectively.
