Schenectady, NY (10/30/10) – The Montclair State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed third and fourth, respectively as the Red Hawks competed at the Union College Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Among the highlights for Montclair State, the men’s team posted three second-place finishes while the women claimed one.
The men’s 300 backstroke relay team of Zak Westerberg (Hamilton,NJ / Hamilton North), Shawn Chambrovich(Allenhurst, NJ / Red Bank Regional) and Jason Jennings (Cedar Run, NJ / Southern Regional) timed in a 2:55.45.Thomas Long (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) then helped the 500 and 200 freestyle relayteams to second-place showings. Long swam the leadoff leg for the 500 freestylerelays as he, Michael Volski (Edison, NJ / Edison), Michael Smith (Cherry Hill,NJ / Cherry Hill East) and Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ / Edison) clocked in at4:25.04.
Long was the third leg on the 200 team as he joined Westerberg, Nikolas Lumkong and Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) as thatquartet registered a time of 1:30.56.
On the women’s side the 300 backstroke relay team of Laura Spadoni (Nazareth, PA / Nazareth Area), Kelly Abner(Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) and Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) posted a time of 3:37.47.
Junior diver Laura Hess (Berlin, NJ / Eastern) took tophonors in the one-meter event. Hess collected a final score of 286.50.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, November 6 asthey travel to Division II Adelphi University for a dual meet beginning at 1:00 pm.
