The Montclair State University community mourns the passing on December 26, 2010, of Scott R. Williams, a loyal friend of the University and a member of the University’s Foundation Board, the John J. Cali School of Music Advisory Board, and a former member of the University Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ingrid (Ottoson) ’92 ’96 MA; two children, Jennifer Dumont and Michael; as well as three grandchildren, a brother, Jan, and his sister-in-law, Sally.
A dedicated supporter of Montclair State, Williams received the University’s Carpe Diem award in 2005. This annual award is presented to alumni and friends who have established distinguished careers and demonstrated outstanding achievements. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were also generous benefactors to the University and supported the purchase of a new practice organ for the John J. Cali School of Music and also named a lecture hall in University Hall.
Williams was retired from an illustrious career at PSE&G that began in 1972. After retiring in 2006 as a director after 34 years of service there, he became a professor of finance and accounting at the County College of Morris, where he had previously taught part-time for 20 years.
A resident of Mendham since 1976, Williams was a former president of the Mendham Board of Education and a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Morristown. He also was a trustee of the YWCA of Orange and West Hudson since 1987.
A memorial service will be held at the Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph, www.tuttlefh.com, on January 15, 2011, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in his memory to the John J.
