Columbus, OH (3/11/11) – Freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown)
finished in 11th place overall in the pentathlon at the 2011 NCAA
Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Capital
University on Friday.
Ellis, MSU’s lone competitor at the national meet and the lone
freshman in the field, totaled 3,078 points in the five events. The
NJAC Co-Rookie of the Year, Ellis entered the competition with the 10th
best score in the nation. She recorded a score of 3,289 points at the
CTC Championships in February that placed her on the list of
provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Championships.
Ellis began the day by finishing fifth in the 55 meter hurdles
with a time of 9.00 seconds to accumulate 893 points. She then placed
sixth in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5’1”) which netted her 678
points and was ninth in the shot put at 9.40 meters (30’ 10.25”). Ellis
collected 490 points for that event.
Ellis was 12th in the fourth event of the day, the long jump with a
best leap of 4.66 meters (15’ 3.5”) and wrapped up the competition with
a time of 2:32.03 in the 800 meters finishing 11th. Ellis registered
469 and 668 points, respectively in the last two events for her final
total.
Emma Dewart of Ithaca College won the event with a score of 3,535
points edging out Janey Helland of Gustavus Adolphus by nine points for
the national championship.
