Montclair, NJ (3/21/11) - Freshman softball third baseman Dana Amato (Hillsdale, NJ / Pascack Valley) and baseball junior outfielder Mickey McGraw (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) have been named the MSU Athletes of the Week for March 21.
Amato was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Player of the Week as she batted .529 with a slugging percentage of .706 and on-base average of .619 in seven games for MSU during a 5-3 week at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, FL. Amato was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a double in a 4-1 win versus Carthage College and went 2-for-2 with two doubles and five RBI in a 10-0 victory versus Nazareth. She wrapped up her week going 2-for-3 in 1-0, eight-inning victory versus St. Benedict. For the week, Amato collected nine hits in 17 at bats and drew four walks in addtion to successfully handling 13 of 14 chances in the field at third base. Amato currently leads the team in batting average (.526), slugging percentage (.737) and RBI (9).
McGraw helped the Red Hawks to a 4-1 week at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. In the five contests, McGraw batted .526 scoring four times and adding a double and two walks. He went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the Red Hawks’ 11-6 win over 16th-ranked College of Wooster and was 2-for-4 in a 7-4 loss to Carthage College. McGraw then went 4-for-4 with an double and run scored as Montclair posted its second win over Wooster in a 3-2 victory before capping off the week with a 2-for-4 performance and two runs scored as the Red Hawks topped LaGrange College, 7-1. McGraw had an on-base percentage of .571 for the week and currently leads MSU in batting average (.444) and hits (12).
